Monday, August 08, 2005More Sam Stuff!
In other news, the Ojo TP came out, and there's a big rant by sam in there about what he's going to do next... because many of you actually bought all the issues and didn't get the tpb, Shad has been nice enough to digitize it for everyone... so enjoy!
Welcome to the Mysterious Trout and his Magic Box, What do the eight upcoming Oni miniseries have in common? At least one character in each book was visited by the legendary Mysterious Trout. Little is known about the Mysterious Trout, only that whomever it visits often finds themselves awed and inexplicably destined to build a "Magic Box." OJO, you've just read. While Annie's lost mother was more of the series focus, Annie briefly witnessed the Trout, and later, we'll see a desire to build a Box will hit her fully in adulthood. MY INNER BIMBO looks at one of the two people on whom the Trout's visit had the greatest effect--one is Annie's grandpa. Years ago, he married his wife while very young, and never grew up. Now sixty and haunted by his own encroaching mortality Gramps escapes into a imaginary fantasy woman inside himself-his undeveloped feminine side, his inner bimbo." She springs from the Magic Box he builds after a Trout visit, but soon this fantasy bimbo proves even more a nightmare than his wife. MY FAVORITE LIE sees Annie grown to adulthood and working as a boom mic operator for a documentary about a charismatic, unemployed conman who approaches a group of female counselors. The man boldly claims if they are lucky, every one of them will wind up sleeping with him-in exchange he'll teach them never to fall for the "bad boy types" they're naturally drawn to. Annie starts secretly building a Magic Box to solve her problem-she's unable to cry a single tear after a painful break up and cannot feel anything inside. RIO LINDA BLUES tells the story of a mother and son living alone in a old farm house. The son writes long letters to feminist Andrea Dworken, apologizing for men in general, his ambivalence over strong females, his missing father, and even himself. One day the boy's befriended by a punk girl who develops a secret crush on him and is impatient with his worry of female approval. The boy's story ends with a visit from the Trout, which changes his life forever. CONFESSIONS OF A DYSLEXIC SEX SLAVE is Dana, the other person most effected by the Trout. She is a lesbian who, like Gramps became involved with an older woman and now frets over it. She endlessly pours over probabilities of if she hadn't met her older partner Andreaa (not Dworkin). would she be happier? Healthier? Normal? Dana's knowledge of Trout lore and the Magic Box possibly surpasses Gramps'. She's stuck on the night shift of a convenience store, compulsively lying, and writing erotic stories she publishes on the net under a male identity she calls Mr. Blip. "Mr. Blip** is one of Gramps favorite sex story authors. Dana's fears over her shame over her relationship dilemma parallels Gramps, they become friends over the net, and frequently cross paths, though never in person. CUTE Dana's partner, Andrea, stumbles across an erotic story, and accuses Dana of writing the tale of a dysfunctional mother who became enamored with a younger woman who bosses her around. The story's neurotic daughter senses her mother's fixation and the daughter is both horrified, yet curiously encouraging of it. Andrea claims the erotic story is an exact mirror of the real life dynamics between Dana's mother, Andrea, and Dana. Dana denies it, and as each chapter is published a guessing game develops over who the real author may be. LUST POLICE This is the story of a sixteen-year-old Dana living alone with her mother. Dana is convinced that other people see her as passive and pitiful, so she rebels by writing deranged sex stories, which she posts over the Internet. The trouble begins when one of Dana's fictional stories, "Teacher's Bra Strap," becomes the focus of national media attention. An 8-year-old student in the Mid-West is caught snapping his teacher's bra strap in real life and blames his actions on Dana's sex story. The police start a manhunt to find and lynch this "Net monster." Meanwhile, Dana is kidnapped by a string of various radical feminist groups who try and manipulate her story for their own gain. Her story and fight for freedom becomes legendary on the net, but when an unscrupulous producer steals "Teacher's Bra Strap" and opens it off-Broadway, Dana is must decide whether potential profits are more important than protecting her anonymity. ROUND finishes off the whole series. The silent story of a boy and girl who meet as children, bond, yet are torn apart by the simple trauma of the girl's family moving away. The boy obsessed with a cracked snow globe he once saw, spends his whole life searching for it, and the girl -who was whisked away. As an old man, he finds a job as a janitor sweeping in a school, and spies the racked snow globe sitting in a classroom. Will he find her after all these years? This series vlll serve as the finale to not only THIS Trout universe, but will give completion to any lingering questions in the last issue of The Maxx. Ojo - The Movie!
